Why we made it
Hair helps us notice and celebrate difference.
Children notice racial differences early, yet grown-ups are rarely given joyful ways to talk about them. We began with something every child recognizes: hair.
Every kind of hair
Curls, twists, locs, covered hair, body hair and no hair at all.
Real photos
Babies love looking at real faces, and these are real kids and families.
An easy first talk
Hair is a simple, happy way to start talking about race.
Praise for Hair
What readers are saying
“It also helps the adults find words to affirm that all hair, lack of hair, and/or hair styles are beautiful.”
“My kids love seeing all these beautiful kinds of hair, including some who have curly hair like them, coily hair like their dad, covered hair like their grandma, and on and on!”
“It's full of beautiful depictions of children and families celebrating themselves exactly as they are.”
