“Now that you got your Kickstarter funded, you going to go on a big vacation?”
I wish.
Celebrate yes. Vacation no.
Instead, the $40,998 raised by 503 backers was a mandate to Little Feminists that it’s time to ramp things up.
Sure it won’t be easy. Dreary eyes from packing boxes for our 600+ subscribers until 4 a.m. is proof of that. But it’s all worth it – spreading the amazing, diverse stories to kids around the world.
We are excited by the grassroots excitement we’ve drummed up, but this is just the start. We have a long way to go.
Last month I was featured on a podcast, Breakthroughs with Jordan Murphy, where I was reminded that this is my calling: “If we can raise a generation of kids to love themselves exactly as they are, then that’s the whole point of Little Feminist.”
So yes, while there won’t be any shiny new car or trip around the world, for Little Feminist there are big things ahead. We will now be able to take this vision to a whole new level.
With 2018 coming to an end, and the New Year about to begin, wherever you jumped on this train we thank you.
Here’s a look at some of the highlights to where we’ve come, and the ideas and goals we are implementing:
- In the past 12 months, we’ve sent more than 3,000 books to 48 states. In 2019 we plan to send out more than 10,000 across the world.
- We just launched a 0-3-year-old book club AND 7-to-9-year-old book club, increasing our staff to find more great books, and create more DIY activities and meaningful discussion questions.
- In 2019, we will start to publish our own children’s books, working with emerging authors and illustrators of color.
- Besides the books that we will send out, we will start a global dialog inspiring future authors and illustrators to write books featuring and normalizing diversity.
Here’s to raising good humans one story at a time,
Britt
